Yorkshire Dales Ingleton Adventure [concluded]

The Yorkshire Dales is one of England’s top landscape areas. It is famous for outstanding scenery, sparkling rivers, unspoilt countryside, diverse wildlife habitats, villages of stone houses dotted throughout the stunning valleys, and a rich cultural heritage. A beautiful natural area that spans a few counties in Northern England, the National Park is a masterpiece scattered with waterfalls, caves, valleys and high moors, making for an adventure for a variety of interests.

Ingleton and the surrounding area was settled in the Iron Age by the Brigantes who built a hill fort on top of Ingleborough with walls a kilometer in circumference. The Romans defeated the Brigantes in battle and built a fort alongside the hill fort. The valley was crossed by Roman roads as Ingleton was a strategic river crossing. By the 12th century the Normans had built a church in the village.
